A partially camouflaged 2013 Maruti Suzuki SX4 (codenamed YY4 minor) has been spied testing near Ahmedabad by the team at Rushlane. The facelifted car that was snapped testing is a CNG powered VXi variant and will be launched in the market next year.
Changes to this model are mostly cosmetic and includes a revised front grille, headlamps as well as a new bumper. The rest of the car is expected to remain the same including the interiors and the lineup of petrol and diesel engines.
Meanwhile, the indo-Japanese automaker is also mulling the prospect of setting up an assembly plant in Sri Lanka. According to reports, it has been prompted to take the move after the Sri Lanka government began a process to tighten its import norms and raise customs duty in a bid to encourage local manufacturing. The company is currently assessing the idea of setting up a 30,000 units a year assembly plant requiring an investment of 20-25 crore Sri Lankan Rupees (Rs 8-10 Crore).
Maruti Suzuki currently holds a significant share in the Sri Lankan market where it accounts for around 15,000 of the total 29,000 new cars sold annually and the move by the Lankan government would hurt its margins significantly. If it goes through with the plan, Maruti will be the second company after Chinese manufacturer Geely to venture into local vehicle assembly in Sri Lanka.
