We all gasped in excitement at around this time last year when Jaguar unveiled the F-Type Roadster. Its good looks and stellar performance seems to have brought back the era of the two-seater British sports car. However, the biggest question that was on everyone’s mind was when would Jag make a coupe based on the F-Type. Now, after numerous spy shots and multiple teasers, Jaguar has taken the wraps off the F-Type Coupe.
The Jaguar F-Type Coupe unsurprisingly shares much of its DNA with the roadster and this includes the underpinnings, engine options and even the same overall design. It gets an all-aluminium body with a gentle sloping roof that extends all the way to the rear end much like the C-X16 concept car that was unveiled in 2011. However, reports say that unlike the C-X16 whose boot lid opened to one side, the F-Type Coupe gets a conventional design.
The biggest change to the F-Type Coupe is that the V8 S moniker has been dropped. The top-of-the-line version will now be called the F-Type R and will make use of the same 5.0-litre supercharged V8 but has now been tuned to produce 550bhp and 680Nm of torque. It will do 0-100kmph in four seconds and then go on to hit an electronically limited top speed of 299kmph. The rest of the engine line-up and gearbox options all remain exactly the same as the roadster and even uses the same naming convention.
The F-Type Coupe will go on sale in America early next year and is expected to be priced USD 4,000 (Rs 2.5 lakh) less than the equivalent roadster model. The top of the line F-Type R is expected to be priced at USD 99,000 (Rs 61.92 lakh). Previously, India got the Roadster almost a year after its global debut, so we can expect the same time line for the Coupe.
