Porsche has unveiled the 2014 the 911 Turbo Cabriolet and the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet at the ongoing Los Angeles Auto Show. The two rocket sleds will follow suit once the sale of the new versions of the standard car begin next year.
Both the convertibles are based on the hard top Porsche 911 Turbo. They have a retractable roof which is mounted on a magnesium frame to reduce the weight. The carmaker boasts of quickly opening and closing the roof of the vehicle in 13 seconds even if the car is doing about 50kmph. This roof when closed gives the convertible a coupe-like appearance.
Since the cars are based on the Porshe 911 Turbo we can assume that they will offer a driver-focused cabin. Both the variants have premium materials used in the interiors including the plush leather upholstery and carbon-fibre elements for some parts. The cars get the Bose system as a standard infotainment system which can be replaced by an optional Burmester sound system. Other optional features that the cars will get are a radar-controlled adaptive cruise control system, a camera-based road sign, speed limit recognition functions and a reverse camera.
The Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet and the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet are powered by the same standard twin-turbocharged 3.8-litre six-cylinder engine, seen on the 911 Turbo and is mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. In this rear-engined car, power is delivered to all the four wheels. The S model churns out 560bhp in comparison to the 520bhp powered open-top Turbo model. These cars brag of a top-speed of more than 300kmph.
The 911 Turbo Cabriolet is expected to be priced at USD 1,60,700 (Rs 1.01 crore) and the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet for USD 1,93,900 (Rs 1.21 crore).
