McLaren has officially launched its P1 hypercar at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show and it is everything that one can dream of in a machine that costs 1.5 million dollars – including exclusivity with production run of just 375 examples. It is based the British automaker MP4-12C sportscar and uses the same engine albeit in a much higher state of tune.
The Mclaren P1 is powered by a twin turbocharged 3.8-litre V8 mill that produces 717bhp and 900NM of torque. This being the age of all things green, the P1 also has an electric motor which produces an additional 173bhp and hence taking the total power of the P1 to 890bhp.
The electric motor's entire shove is available at the touch of a button on the steering wheel, and this feature is called the Instant Power Assist System. McLaren says that this helps the P1's throttle response ape that of a naturally-aspirated engine. Oh and did we mention that on the electric engine alone the car can travel for 9.6km.
Thanks to such a large output the car can hit 100kmph in less than three seconds and 200kmph in under seven seconds and then to an even higher 300kmph in just under 17 seconds, which according to some reports is almost 11 seconds off the legendary McLaren F1’s 0-300 timing.
The McLaren P1 will rival the recently launched LaFerrari but will be a much more exclusive car as only 375 will be made as compared to the LaFerrari's 499 unit production run. It is likely that most of the 375 units had already found homes across the world even before the launch of the car.
