Chevrolet has officially unveiled the 2014 Corvette Stingray Convertible at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Based on the 2014 Corvette Stingray that made its global debut at the Detroit Auto Show, the convertible features an automatic folding soft-top roof that can be erected at speeds up to 50kmph.
While the car may look like coupe with the roof chopped off, it has been designed to be an open car right from the outset and has gained very little weight while becoming a convertible. The rear ducts that stood prominently in the hardtop (as a part of the Z51 performance package) have been moved under the car to make space for the roof. Chevrolet has also removed the rear window to give a full “wind howling in my ears’ experience.
Some reports suggest the Convertible Corvette with the roof down resembles the previous car, most likely in a move to appeal to long time Corvette fans. Chevrolet has not specified any details on the engine line up and underpinngs but we expect that it will use the same small block LT1 6.2-litre V8 mill which produces 450bhp and 610Nm of torque. Most of the interiors are also expected to remain the same save for a few changes related to the car being a convertible.
Unfortunately the Corvette will not be coming to the Indian market anytime soon as it is available only in left-hand drive and would cost twice as much to import from America. The Corvette will be launched by the end of the year and will go on sale globally from 2014.
