It was shown to us in the form of a silhouette a few before the Motor Show and after the effective but rather bland S-Cross SX4, the Suzuki iV-4 (individuality-vehicle-4WD) crossover looks quite interesting and gives us an idea what design language future vehicles from the Japanese automaker will look like. It is also a modern iteration of Suzuki’s long standing practice of compact SUVs that began with the LJ series of jeeps in 1971.
The iV-4 is 4.2-meters long, 1.8 meters wide, 1.6 meters high and has a wheelbase of 2.5-meters making it roughly the same size as the international-spec Ford EcoSport. It sits on 20-inch wheels and 235/55 R20 size tyres. The concept car has been painted in a shade specific to this model called Brilliant Turquoise Metallic Blue.
Not much is known about the engine line up or the underpinnings except that as the name suggests, it will get the Japanese automaker’s ALL-GRIP four-wheel drive system. However, we believe it will get a set of petrol and diesel engines in the range of 1.6-litres to 2.0-litres with the latter being for the torqueier oil burners.
The iV-4 in the European markets, when launched in 2015, will compete with the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and obviously the Ford EcoSport. We are sure to get this car when it is launched as this is a segment that Suzuki currently has no presence in despite it being one of the fastest growing segments in India as well as globally.
