We call it the Grand i10 but over in Europe it’s been dubbed the 2014 i10 (much like the eternal potato-pohtato argument) and is the third incarnation of the Korean automaker’s compact hatchback. It was unveiled globally on the 7th August and was launched for the Indian market (in the Grand avatar) on September 4 for Rs 4.29 lakh.
The 2014 Hyundai i10 is shorter than its Indian counterpart by 100mm but has the same overall design cues and appearance. It now completely embodies Hyundai’s fluidic design philosophy which includes a new front fascia and a sloping roofline which does away with the outgoing cars rounded design. Since the European spec car is smaller than the Grand i10, it appears to be more compact and has much more flowing design.
The European spec car is offered with the same features list as the Grand i10, however it gets more safety options, automatic climate control, heated seats and steering, traction control and two tone interiors.
In terms of engines, the 2014 Hyundai i10 gets an option of the 1.0-litre three cylinder petrol mill that can be had in two states of tune; 68PS+94Nm and 70PS+90Nm when the car is run on LPG. The 1.2-litre Kappa engine is also being offered and it produces 89PS and 120Nm of torque. While the 1.1-litre engine is only available with a five-speed manual, the 1.2-litre Kappa engine can also be had with a four-speed automatic.
