The Audi line-up for the Frankfurt Motor Show is an extensive one, considering it to be their home auto show, introducing a tech-heavy A8 along with the S8 and the Quattro concepts. The 2014 Model Year facelift features a number of luxury additions, the highlight of which is Audi’s new Matrix LED headlamp technology.
The A8 is visually similar to current model bar the headlamps and the slightly tweaked bumper, front grille and exhaust finishers while the A8L which is the model sold in India, gains 13cm in length and wheelbase. Changes on the inside include a broader MMI display and the chrome detailing to the instrument panel and the multimedia kit on the front and rear while also improving the boot capacity by 10-litres.
The 3.0-litre V6 TDI engine now produces 260PS, an increase of 8PS from the current engine aiding it to accelerate to 100kph in 5.9sec. The 4.2-litre TDI on the other hand improves its torque figures to 850Nm along with improving the power by 35PS to 388PS enabling the same sprint in 4.7sec while still returning 13.5km to the litre.
Until the next generation A8 is unveiled in 2016, the model will go up against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7 Series, both of which are awaiting a facelift in India, with the S-Class upgrade just around the corner.
