An undisguised facelifted 2013 Tata Nano has been spied during a shoot for a TV commercial by the team at Overdrive. The car has already been spotted testing across various locations over the last few months and features some cosmetic changes as well as some major mechanical changes.
In the front, the facelifted Tata Nano is almost the same as the current model but now features a large chrome strip running across the bonnet in a bid to give the car an upmarket feel. The rear end too gets a large chrome strip just above the bumper and it is likely that the hatch will be openable but only via an internal release mechanism. The pictures also show that an additional air intake on the rear bumper for increased cooling. The interiors of the Nano have not changed much and still retains the same overall design including the centrally mounted instrument cluster.
The facelifted model in addition to the 660cc petrol mill will also be offered with a CNG compatible engine and a new turbocharged 800cc diesel mill that has been developed by Garrett and produces 43.5PS. We have also revealed exclusively that the Nano diesel will go into production next February and that is likely to use a plastic fuel tank to save on weight.
Tata recently cut the production of the Nano by up to 80 per cent to align its inventories in accordance with market demands. It is likely that the Indian SUV major is banking on the facelifted model to raise volumes once again.
