Honda has unveiled a new Jazz-based crossover concept at the Detroit Auto Show – one that will soon make way for production version pitting against the Ford Ecosport, Renault Duster, Chevrolet Trax, Peugeot 2008 and many others that are still under development.
At 4.3 meters, the new Urban SUV concept is about 15cm longer than the Jazz and around 21cm shorter than the CR-V. The concept looks proportionate and stunning with coupe lines and hidden rear-door handles. Honda design philosophy is evident in the concept; the front fascia resembles the current generation Accord and the CR-V.
Though the engine specs of the concept were not announced at the show, Honda confirmed that the production version will be powered by the range of Earth-Dreams units. The saner production version will be on sale in Japan by end of this year, while it will be rolled-out in US by mid-2014.
The question that is important for us though is whether this will come to India? Equally important is whether it will be powered by diesel engine? Looking at the current trend here, we will be surprised if Honda does not priorities India for the launch of new compact SUV. The diesel variants will certainly be a part of the lineup – mostly probably the 1.5-litre Earth Dreams oilburner that will also power the new Honda Amaze.
