Jeeps are coming to India and the Grand Cherokee will be the first car from their range to arrive on our shores. Fiat-Chrysler will initially opt for the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route and this facelifted version from Detroit Auto Show will go on sale in India around September.
There are more than a few changes to the 2014 Grand Cherokee – both to the exteriors and interiors, along with a new diesel engine option. The premium SUV now gets new grille, bi-xenon headlamps with LED DRLs, revised air-dam and fog lamps. The rear has also been retouched to up novelty quotient.
The changes to the interiors include new three-spoke steering wheel with paddle shifters as standard, new infotainment system and refreshed console. The Jeep is now available with a 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine in the US; it produces 345bhp and is mated to eight-speed automatic transmission.
We expect the same V6 diesel powertrain to be made available in India, along with the bigger petrol units.
