Volkswagen has unveiled the Golf Blue Motion concept car at the 2012 Paris Motor Show. Powered by a 1.6-litre TDI diesel engine Volkswagen claims the car will use just 3.2 litres per 100km (that’s 31.2kmpl!) with really low CO2 emission of just 85 grams per kilometre.
The Golf Blue Motion concept is lighter and 15 per cent more efficient than its predecessor. It has also been equipped with a start-stop system adding to the car’s green image. In spite of being loaded with so much technology, the concept top at 202kmph and can comfortably seat five passengers.
In terms of design and features, the new car is 37 kilos lighter than its predecessor and has been fitted with low rolling resistance tyres that work at a higher air pressure. The five-speed gearbox has been re-worked on and now the ratios are longer for improved fuel efficiency. Aerodynamics of the Golf concept have improved with the drag co-efficient of just 0.27.
For the first time, Volkswagen will offer the Blue Motion technology in two variants; Trendline and Comfortline instead of a separate model. Each of these variants will get all the standard features and fittings available on their regular Golf counterparts. The German auto giant has said that car will be launched into the market in summer 2013.
Volkswagen has claimed that with the Golf’s 50 litre tank and average of 31.2kmpl, the Blue Motion concept will be able to do a theoretical range of 1,562 kms. Unfortunately the Golf will not be coming to India any time in the near future.
