Mahindra owned Ssangyong will unveil its compact crossover the e-XIV( Electric- eXciting user Interface Vehicle) ‘range extender’ electric vehicle at the Paris Motor Show. The crossover is a combination of two previous EV concepts the XIV 1 and the KEV.
The e-XIV uses an 80-kW Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM), giving a range of 80km by taking power from the 16-kWh lithium-ion battery. It takes four hours for charging a fully discharged battery, and 20 minutes for quick recharging. It also gets a one litre petrol engine which in combination with the electric motors will give a range of 600 km.
The e-XIV has been styled based on the XIV-2 concept and a very noticeable feature is the glass roof. This includes an integrated 12 solar cell panel for generating solar power to operate the car’s auxiliary systems, while also providing greater light, enhanced spatial comfort to the cabin and improved visibility.
In terms of design, Ssangyong has taken aerodynamics into consideration and has given the crossover flowing lines. The car which has been fitted with LEDs all around also gets specially designed tyres that will aid in improving efficiency.
Inside there is a four-bucket-seat configuration to provide comfort and privacy for each passenger. Each seat can be positioned to create a variety of seating combinations and a choice in space utilisation. The e-XIV is just a concept and will never make it to production; however, the electric power plant with solar panels may make it to one of the production vehicle in few years.
