Audi has unveiled the SQ5 TDI crossover at the Paris Motor Show. Audi’s first diesel model in the S range, the SQ5 is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo engine that has an output of 308bhp and produces 650Nm of torque. Fitted with the Quattro technology, power is transmitted to all four wheels via an eight-speed tiptronic gearbox pushing the oil burning crossover to 100 kmph in 5.1 seconds. It is also expected to return 16.6 kilometres to the litre.
While the release of the SQ5 is already a major step from the German luxury car maker, they have upped the ante by showcasing a special edition of the crossover which has been called the SQ5 TDI Exclusive Concept.
How does a luxury carmaker, already known for setting cabin standards, raise the stakes? By finishing the SUV in an Aral Blue crystal effect exterior paint, fitting aluminum-look exterior mirrors, xenon headlights and a quad exhaust design to add to the glossy look.
Inside the cabin there’s a multi-function sports steering wheel and gear lever wrapped in black Nappa leather. The whole cabin including the dashboard cover and the centre armrest have been finished in a contrasting white stitching. Audi has also judiciously placed its badges and logos all over the vehicle, lest you forget what you are driving! This SUV will be powered by the same engine and have the same underpinnings of the standard SQ5.
The standard SQ5 will start at 58,000 Euros (Rs 39.41 lakh) and the SQ5 TDI Exclusive Concept which will have a production run of just 50 vehicles will retail for 92,000 Euros (Rs 62.52 lakh). The SUV will be launched in the first half of 2013.
