The teams continued to struggled due to limited experience with Pirelli tyres, as wet conditions marred Friday free practice of the ten round of 2012 Formula 1 championship – German GP. Most drivers had a tough time at the Hockenheim circuit, where the F1 is being held for the first time since 2010 and Pirelli tyres are making a debut.
The McLaren updates for the weekend seem to have worked, with Jenson Button leading the time sheet in overcast conditions, ahead of teammate Lewis Hamilton. Fernando Alonso continued his sole charge in Ferrari, ahead of Michael Schumacher and Sergio Perez. Red Bull cars were down the order for reason with Vettel clocking 12th fastest time and Mark Webber 20th on the time sheet.
Pastor Maldonado was on top in the rain affected second session, with Rosberg and Vettel clocking second and third fastest timings, respectively. Hulkenberg was consistent for Force India at sixth position in both wet and dry conditions. The seven time world champion, Michael Schumacher, crashed few minutes before the end of second session – the driver is ok and will participate in today’s practice and qualifiers.
The season is set for yet another interesting weekend, with weather playing important role and very limited test data of the tyres. Stay tuned for updates from qualifying of the round 10 – at Hockenheim.
