1.9 million Toyota Prius recalled globally for software glitch

Toyota has recalled 1.9 million Toyota Prius’ manufactured between March 2009 and February 2014 for a software glitch. The company has said that 997,000 units from Japan, 713,000 units from America and 130,000 units from Europe and the rest of the regions where the car is sold are being recalled for a problem in the software that governs the hybrid system.

The Japanese automaker says that the glitch in the software could cause transistors to be damaged resulting in warning lights going off and consequently resulting in driving power to be reduced or the car to stop.

Since the Prius is a CBU for the Indian market, we expect that Toyota India will also recall all models sold here to rectify the software related issue.
