Jaguar has released images of the 2016 Jaguar XF just before its official unveiling at the 2014 New York Motor Show. Similarly, the pictures of the XE were revealed before its official unveiling at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. Well, do we have to say that it looks like a bigger XE? It does, and it is completely new with loads of high-tech features and the new range of Ingenium engines.
The 2016 model sports a longer wheelbase than its predecessor, put in numbers it is 51mm taking the tally to 2,960mm. The extended wheelbase has liberated more space and Jaguar claims the rear-seat space is class-leading.
It gets more aluminium about 75 per cent which has reduced the weight of the car by 190kg. Despite shedding weight the torsional stiffness has gone up by 28 per cent claims the company. Jaguar also claims the weight distribution is nearly 50:50 which means dynamically it will be well-sorted.
The range of engines includes the 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel mill to be available in two states of tune, apart from the 3.0-litre V6 diesel engine with twin-turbochargers. The petrol range gets a supercharged 3.0-litre V6. An eight-speed automatic transmission will be a standard fare, but one can opt for a six-speed manual gearbox with the 2.0-litre Ingenium engine. Also, we expect the new nine-speed transmission to be offered in one of the engine configurations at least.
The 2016 Jaguar XF will be officially unveiled at the 2014 New York Auto Show starting next week onwards. Expect an Indian unveiling at the 2016 Auto Expo.
