Hyundai's new crossover based on the Elite i20 hatchback was spotted again, this time revealing a new brown colour similar to the Santa Fe from Hyundai's current line-up. The new compact crossover is expected to be launched in a couple of months from now.
The Elite i20 crossover is based on the same platform as the Elite i20 hatchback but gets cosmetic tweaks to give it a fresh new look. We have seen the crossover testing several times in South India and have enough details to gauge what the India-spec model will get. The car gets a plastic cladding and the bumpers are restyled to give it a muscular look. While the sweptback headlamps from the hatchback might be carried over, the fog lamps will be bigger and will further enhance the meatier look along with the new redesigned alloy wheels. Let’s hope a tailgate mounted spare wheel is added to give the car a sporty look. The car’s cabin is expected to get some additional features in line with the sporty design of the vehicle.
Hyundai will employ the same engine options from the Elite i20 hatchback for the new crossover. The petrol variant will be powered by the four-cylinder 1.2-litre Kappa motor that produces 83bhp of power. This mill comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. On the other hand, the diesel model will be powered by the 1.4-litre CRDI motor that churns out 89bhp of power and 219Nm of torque. It comes mated to a six-speed manual transmission.
Just like many other manufacturers, Hyundai is also planning to bring this new vehicle in the new compact crossover segment in India. In a bid to improve their market share and improve their domestic volumes, the Korean carmaker will launch this hatchback-based crossover and the iX25 for the Indian market soon. The new crossover might be priced in the range of Rs 6 lakh to Rs 11 lakh and will compete with the Volkswagen Cross Polo, the Toyota Etios Cross, Fiat Avventura and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki SX4 S-Cross in the compact crossover segment in our country.
