Mercedes has officially unveiled the Maybach S600 at the 2014 Los Angeles Auto Show yesterday. This marks the resurrection of the Maybach brand name after it was discontinued in 2012. The German carmaker has introduced the car in a top-spec variant as of now and it will be available for sale February 2015 onwards.
The Maybach S600 features styling similar to the S-Class and at 5,453mm it is longer by 207mm over the car it is based on. The additional length of the Maybach has liberated more legroom for rear-seat passengers. It comes with standard executive rear seats featuring backrests which are adjusted separately with the seat reference point and footwell remaining unchanged. What more, one can also adjust the cushion separately (inclination and horizontal). Mercedes claims it to be the quietest car in the world with loads of sound insulation and the special seats that optimise noise insulation.
It is powered by a twin-turbo 6.0-litre V12 engine churning out 522bhp and 830Nm of torque mated to a seven-speed AMG automatic transmission and iit will accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 5.0 seconds (claimed).
Mercedes hasn’t announced the pricing yet but it is believed to be in excess of $200,000 (Rs 1.23 crore) for the entry-level model. Also expect an armoured version with VR9-level ballistic protection to be in the offing soon.
Alright, so the Maybach has arrived so will Mercedes bring it to India? There is no doubt that a privileged few would be interested in this car, but will Mercedes introduce the Maybach in India or the range-topping Pullman or both? We shall wait for the company to answer this.
