Maruti Suzuki has launched the Ciaz starting at Rs 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This C-Segment challenger has been launched officially today at an event in New Delhi. The country’s leading automobile manufacturer will hope that the Ciaz does for them what the Baleno and SX4 couldn’t.
The Ciaz comes in four variants – Vxi, Vxi+, Zxi and Zxi+ in petrol and diesel. It will be powered by a 1.4-litre K-Series engine churning out 93bhp of maximum power and 130Nm of torque. The diesel power comes from the tried-and-tested 1.3-litre MultiJet diesel engine producing 90bhp and 200Nm of torque. Both the engines will be mated to a five-speed manual gearbox, nothing is official, but we can expect an automatic version later.
The modern and contemporary Ciaz has been designed to please a wide range of audience. The deletion of the Lxi variants is a little surprising, however it seems like Maruti wants to give away that acronym for the Ciaz. The top-end variants of the Ciaz get projector headlamps, keyless entry and start function, multi-function steering wheel, AC with climate control, rear AC vents, 16-inch multi-spoke alloy wheels, ABS, EBD and dual airbags.
The Ciaz is a make or break product for Maruti in the fiercely competitive C-Segment. It’s competition - the Honda City and the Hyundai Verna contribute to a major chunk of sales in this segment. It will be a little difficult to dethrone the City, however Maruti has played the price game smartly.
