A couple of days ago we reported that Porsche has imported about 10 of its hot new SUV the Macan in India. It seems like the launch is just round the corner. Accoring to our sources, Porsche is all set to launch the Macan in July.
The Macan will be available in two variants as we expected. The import information just brings half the story, which means the shipment with Macan Turbo (petrol) is on the way to India. The source also adds that the SUV will be sold in limited numbers. It is hard to predict the number of Macan Turbos that will make it to Indian customers this year, but going by the number of only 10 Macan diesels, we assume it would be close to that figure.
The Macan Turbo will get a 3.6-litre bi-turbo petrol engine that makes 400bhp of max power and 550Nm of torque. The company claims the Macan Turbo can do the 0-100kmph sprint in 4.8 seconds and will max out at 266kmph. The other variant, the Macan S Diesel, will be equipped with a 3.0-litre V6 mill producing a maximum power of 258bhp and 580Nm of torque. The diesel variant can achieve a top speed of 230kmph and do 0-100kph in 6.3 seconds. This Macan S Diesel has a claimed fuel economy figure of 19 kmpl in the UK cycle which is impressive. Both models will have PDK and all-wheel-drive as standard fare.
The Macan will be positioned as a lifestyle product and should ask for a premium over the vehicles of its size, like the Range Rover Evoque and Audi Q5. The diesel version will cost upward of Rs 80 lakh, while the turbo petrol should breach the eight figure mark.
