2014 VW Polo facelift to be launched in July

Volkswagen Polo is one of the most understated premium hatchbacks in our country. The Polo is no looker, but its USP is the strong build quality and off late, its engines. The German carmaker is about to give the car a minor overhaul styling wise and mechanically and this 2014 Polo might be launched on July 15.

The cosmetic changes can be easily dismissed by a non-motoring eye, but there are some changes to the exteriors. The lists of changes outside include a redesigned front bumper with a chrome strip running across the air dam. The headlights are different, so are the fog lamps, however, the revision to the tail-lights are minimal. The front grille layout is similar, but it only gets a single chrome strip at the bottom. The 10 spoke alloy wheels are new and look decent. 

Inside the cabin the major change that will greet anyone is the new three-spoke steering wheel. The steering wheel looks well designed and gets better looking buttons in comparison to the current car. The instrument cluster is retained with minor changes like the multi-information display is more detailed and is no more red. The dashboard layout is similar, but now gets two-tone colours instead of the black only theme of the old car. 

The Polo will now get a new 1.5-litre TDI engine with different power outputs – 89bhp and 104bhp. The Polo was offered with two three-cylinder 1.2-litre engines, one petrol and diesel. The diesel is on its way out, but the petrol will be retained. Another petrol engine on offer will be the turbocharged 1.2-litre which will be used in the GT TSI. The more powerful 104bhp diesel engine will be exclusive to the GT TDI model. 

The changes also warrant an increase in pricing of the Polo which could be in the range of 25,000 – 35,000 for the top-end models. Our sources reveal that VW will bring out the entire new Polo range which will include the GT models (petrol and diesel). We expect VW to give minor styling changes to the GT models in the form of different alloy wheels addition of DRLs or maybe, even a sporty exhaust system for the TSI.
