Mercedes-Benz has launched the A-Class Edition 1 in India for Rs 26.17 lakh (ex-showroom Mumbai). It is based on the A 180 CDI and includes cosmetic changes, increased feature list and most importantly revised ground clearance, which was a major grouse with A-Class owners when it was launched in India last year. It will have a limited production run of 100 units but we expect that most of these features will become standard in the next Model Year update of the vehicle.
The A-Class Edition 1 on the outside gets a revised set of alloy wheels, increased ground clearance and Edition 1 decals running the length of the side profile. Mercedes says the decals have been developed here in India and that they aren't available overseas. It also gets a gloss black finish on the OVRMs and a panoramic sunroof. It is available in three shades-cirrus white, polar silver and jupiter red.
The interior equipment list has been increased and now includes electric seat adjustment and memory function for the passenger side, a reverse camera and an armrest for the rear passengers. Mercedes-Benz has also placed an Edition 1 badge near the sunroof button. The German automaker has also fitted two 17.8cm screens for the rear seats, a DVD drive, two headphones and a remote control.
On the engine front, the A-Class Edition 1 is powered by the 2.2-litre diesel unit that produces 109bhp and 250Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via the 7G-Tronic automatic gearbox.
Edit: Mercedes-Benz has also launched the B-Class Edition 1 for Rs 28.75 lakh.
