A Tata Nano has been spied with camouflage. What is new you ask? The car now gets styling changes at the front and the back, as is evident from the images clicked by a website, and it seems like it is a refreshed variant of the car. However, the source has more to add, they claim that the test mule spotted was an AMT variant.
The test mule spotted had new bumpers at the front and rear, with the front bumper now housing a mesh with repositioned fog lamps giving the car a smiling face. The headlight uses the same body but seems to be carrying better bulbs. There are no images of the interiors, however, we expect the interiors to be spruced up a bit. Among the changes to the rear, the car gets a mesh grille and a handle, in the bumper. What can also be expected is an openable hatch door, which was fixed in the earlier Nanos. Tata displayed the Nano with an opening hatch at the 2014 Auto Expo.
There are chances that the Nano AMT might be mated to a new 1-litre three-cylinder petrol engine, but it might be the 624cc engine found in the current Nano that is more likely to be used. Expect the Nano AMT to deliver marginally lesser or similar efficiency to that of the manual transmission which returns 25.35 kmpl to a litre of fuel consumed.
The addition of an AMT variant will widen the Nano’s range and if the response to the recently launched Celerio AMT is anything to go by, Tata might end up selling a lot of the Nano AMTs. Expect the Nano AMT to start under Rs 3 lakh and this could be the cheapest AMT transmission equipped car to be sold in India.
