Lewis Hamilton has continued to display his dominance of the season by taking his fourth consecutive pole position of 2014 at the Spanish Grand Prix in Cataluyna. He trumped team mate Nico Rosberg by 0.18 seconds to take the top slot despite the German topping both Q1 and Q2. The Mercedes-Benz AMG Petronas duo’s performance clearly demonstrates the extent to which they are ahead of their rivals during the 2014 season.
Rounding up the top three is Daniel Ricciardo who managed to place his Red Bull Renault onto the third sport on the grid while team mate Sebastian Vettel brought his car to a halt during Q3 after having a suspected gearbox failure and will now take up P10 on the grid.
Valtteri Bottas brought his Williams home in fourth place ahead of Romain Grosjean who has managed to take his best qualifying spot this season. He has fared far better than team mate Pastor Maldonado who crashed out during Q1 and is likely to start the race from the pit lane tomorrow.
The Ferrari duo of Kimi Raikkonnen and Fernando Alonso have managed to take P6 and P7 with the former having one of his best qualifying sessions this season. Rounding up the top ten is the McLaren of Jenson Button, Williams of Felipe Massa in eighth and ninth place ahead of Sebastian Vettel who is likely to take a grid penalty if the team has to change any parts on his car. The Force India duos of Nico Hulkenberg and Sergio Perez have managed to qualify in 11th and 12th place respectively.
We expect that with the kind of pace that Mercedes AMG Petronas is displaying, it will provide some good fire works for the race tomorrow. However, we expect that the resurgent Ferrari duo will also be in a position to challenge for podiums.
