Volkswagen seems to have come up with an answer once and for all for those who find VW-badged sedans to be plain boring. The brand has revealed a new striking looking midsize four-door coupe concept at the ongoing Beijing Auto Show.
The term ‘midsize’ is barely obvious in this new concept which sits low and very wide on the ground, plus it has a low visual centre of gravity. Furthermore, the design carries short overhangs, a muscular shoulder line, swept-back C-pillars and a short bootlid all highlighting the coupe-esque nature.
Riding on VW’s immensely flexible MQB platform, the midsize coupe is powered by a 220bhp TSI petrol engine. Mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox, the 2-litre unit enables the concept to accelerate from zero to 100kmph in well under 7 seconds, and onto a top speed of 245kmph.
Volkswagen may have shown this new sporty concept amidst much fanfare at the Beijing Auto Show, but the brand has revealed no plans of a potential production version.
