The BMW M6 Gran coupe is now on sale in India for Rs 1.75 crore. The prices were revealed at an event held in the BMW Training Centre in Gurgaon. This is the go-faster version of the BMW 6 series and was unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January 2013. BMW India exhibited it here, at the Auto Expo in February and revealed its plans of launching the five-door coupe in our country.
BMW has developed the M6 Gran Coupe as the performance version of the four-door, stretched coupe based on the standard 6 Series. The fascia is similar to the design of the Z4 boasting of the swept back headlamps, BMW's traditional kidney grille and an aggressive body kit with massive air intakes. The car gets the wheelbase from the M5 sedan. Standing on 20-inch alloys, the car gets features like a carbon fiber roof and painted brake calipers.
The cabin gets all the features of the standard car with the addition of features like luxurious Alcantara upholstery, leather seats and a restyled three-spoke steering wheel. Apart from the various driving modes, eight airbags, ABS with EBD and traction control are standard features on this car. The vehicle is also equipped with BMW's idrive and seat memory function.
The M6 Gran Coupe is powered by the 4.4-litre V8 engine from the M5 which churns out 552bhp of power and 680Nm of torque. This motor, which boasts of BMW’s Twin Scroll and Twin-Turbocharging technology, is the most powerful production-spec engine from the carmaker ever. This mill is mated to a seven-speed M double-clutch gearbox. The rear-wheel drive car can do 100 kmph from a standstill in just 4.2 seconds. However, the top-speed is electronically limited to 250 kmph.
The BMW M6 Gran Coupe is slotted into the luxury sports sedan range and is brought to India via the CBU (Completely Built-up Unit) route and competes with the Audi RS 7.
