Volkswagen Polo and Vento may get more local components

Volkswagen may increase the usage of local content for its upcoming refreshed models of the Polo and the Vento. The German car maker has realised that in a bid to stay competitive in India, the pricing has to be kept in check and that is a difficult to achieve unless the product is localised. 

The updated Polo will also get added features like LED-equipped headlights, reverse camera and internally foldable ORVMs. The Polo alongwith the Vento will also get a 89bhp 1.5-litre diesel engine that may replace the three cylinder 1.2-litre engine. The 1.5-litre diesel mill will be produced locally at the company’s plant in Chakan and this will definitely help keep the cost in check.The same engine will be plonked in the refreshed Vento albeit with a higher power of 104bhp. The Vento may also get a DSG gearbox mated to this diesel mill, and the Polo may also get a similar combination later. 

The Vento will also get upgrades that will focus on the rear seats. VW may offer individual screens in the front headrests as a part of the rear-seat entertainment package. The German car maker also plans to add more airbags to make the car more safer. The exteriors may get chrome accents to excite the C-Segment buyers.

The Polo and Vento are great products but somehow they failed to excite Indian car buyers. This time around the German car maker is taking a conscious effort to give their cars an Indian touch. The refreshed Polo and the Vento will serve as a buffer for VW until these cars based on the MQB platform are launched.
