The M6 Gran Coupe was showcased at the 2014 Delhi Auto Expo and now, it seems that BMW will be launching the car here, in the first week of April. The M6 Gran Coupe is the most premium M-badged car with the German car maker calling it a ‘perfect combination of the M5 and M6’.
The M6 Gran Coupe is a four-door, stretched coupe version of the regular 6 Series. With the wheelbase of the M5 sedan, the M6 Gran Coupe is classified as a ‘four-plus-one’ seater. The body is equipped with an aggressive body kit with massive air intakes, a carbon fiber roof, painted brake calipers and 20-inch alloys. Interior upgrades include plenty of luxurious Alcantara upholstery, leather seats and a restyled three-spoke steering wheel.
The M-division (M for Motorsport) is the high-performance racing arm of BMW and is also responsible for all the M-badged cars. This division has equipped the M6 Gran Coupe with their most powerful production-spec engine till date, a 4.4-litre TwinPower turbocharged V8. The engine produces 560bhp and 677Nm of torque, which propels the car to 100kmph from a standstill in just 4.1 seconds, going on to an electronically limited top speed of 248kmph. The engine powers the rear axle through a seven-speed dual clutch gearbox (M-DCT) which is also seen in the M5.
The M6 Gran Coupe costs around USD 20,000 (Rs 12.22 lakh) more than the base M5 in the US market. Launching the M6 Gran Coupe in India is a part of BMW’s strategy to diversify its lineup and eventually bring in the entire M range in our country. With Mercedes-Benz bringing their AMG range and Audi their RS range of performance cars to India, we anticipate a three-way battle between the German manufacturers.
