Toyota India has announced through a tweet that they have started taking bookings for the all new Corolla Altis. The new Corolla Altis was first showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo and gets the new ‘Furia’ design philosophy but is significantly different from its American sibling which was unveiled around the same time.
The new car is wider and longer than the current model with an extra 75mm of wheelbase being added. The front of the car carries sharp lines for the bumper and the hood, a three-bar chrome grille and another smaller grille below the bumper. The headlamps have been blacked out and stand out owing to the LED inserts.
The wheel arches are heavily flared and house the redesigned alloy-wheels. Toyota claims that the car has lower NVH levels than the outgoing car. The new rear bumpers and the tail lamps give the car an equally aggressive look along with a slight reminiscence of the current Camry. Inside, the car features a fully upgraded dashboard, upholstery and instrument cluster along with a slew of creature comforts.
The Toyota Corolla engine options include a 1.8-litre VVT petrol and a 1.4-litre D-4D turbo diesel. The former engine produces 138bhp and 173Nm of torque while the latter makes 87bhp and 205Nm of torque. While the petrol variant comes with an option of six-speed manual and a seven-speed CVT automatic the diesel is available only with a six-speed manual transmission gearbox.
The Japanese automaker has given a booking amount but we believe that it will be in the range of Rs 50,000 to Rs one lakh. This also means the car will launched within the next two months. It is exepcted to be priced in the range of Rs 12 lakh to Rs 17 lakh and competes in the D-segment with the Skoda Octavia, Chevrolet Cruze and the Hyundai Elantra
