Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) is preparing to develop three to four new soft-roaders in the near future. The company will also introduce a new family of multipurpose vehicles (MPVs). This strategy is mainly to shoulder the market shares while contending with the direct competitors from the compact utility vehicle segment. These include manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Renault and Ford.
The soft-roader vehicles like the Renault Duster and the Ford EcoSport have been enjoying a good demand in the Indian car market. These cars are designed for the city roads and have been dominating that particular segment in our country. Mahindra also intends to cash in this situation and bring up new models. Car manufacturers like Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Hyundai, Fiat, Honda and Nissan have already lined up many utility models to be brought in the coming couple of years.
A report mentioned on ET shows that Mahindra has begun developing a family of multi-purpose vehicles that will boast of an all-new design language. The company’s intentions are to deliver quality and getting products first time right. The senior management of Mahindra has sanctioned the recent design language for multi-purpose vehicle recently.
Apart from the soft-roaders, Mahindra & Mahindra will build an MPV based on the Ssangyong X100 platform which will compete with the Ertiga. Speculations suggest that a new modern looking Xylo is in the making. Another MPV for which the W201 platform will form the base will see the light of the day along with these other cars in 2015-2016.
Mahindra’s upcoming compact SUVs which are codenamed as S101 and S102 are being developed on all-new platforms. They are expected to be priced between Rs 4.5lakh to Rs 8.5lakh when launched. Another rugged SUV dubbed as the U301 designed on the likes of the Bolero will be added to Mahindra’s portfolio in the next two years.
