2014 Ford Fiesta may be offered only with a diesel engine

The 2014 Ford Fiesta sedan was unveiled as a part of the American automaker’s display at the 2014 Auto Expo. Ford’s C-segment offering will now come with their striking new family face which can be found on newer models like the Fusion, Focus and to a certain extent the 2015 Mustang. While the face may be the most striking feature, we have discovered from their official brochures and website that the new car when launched will most likely be offered only with a diesel engine. 

The 2014 Ford Fiesta Sedan, as per an official brochure, will only be offered with a diesel engine and in three variants Ambiente, Trend and Titanium. The Style variant which was available in the petrol engine has now been dropped as is the case with the six-speed dual clutch AT which was available with the 1.5-litre petrol engine.

In terms of overall design, sans the new grille, head lamps and fog lamps the car remains the same as the outgoing model, both on the sides as well as the rear profile, with only the tail lamps getting some minor revisions.

The facelifted Fiesta remains the same as the outgoing model in terms of the interiors so this means fabric seats, leather- wrapped steering wheel (Trend, Titanium), reverse parking sensors (Trend and Titanium), climate control (Trend and Titanium), airbags and ABS with EBD. However, what’s new on this model are the rain sensing wipers, push button start, ambient lighting and Ford’s patented SYNC technology which made its Indian debut with the EcoSport compact crossover. 

As we have said in the beginning of this story, the facelifted Ford Fiesta will only be offered with the 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 90bhp and 204Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a five-speed manual gearbox. 

The move by Ford to have only the diesel models in the line- up is one that has been done for very obvious reasons and it seems that they are only likely to offer the petrol- only models once the demand increases. Ford has already showcased the car at the 2014 Auto Expo and is expected to be launched a few months later. It competes in the C-segment with the Honda City, Renault Scala, Nissan Sunny, VW Polo, Skoda Rapid and the Hyundai Verna.
