Skoda has unveiled the facelifted Superb at the 2014 Auto Expo. The new car was unveiled at the end of last year and is now more in tune with the Czech automaker’s new Vision D philosophy. The automaker has given its flagship sedan cosmetic changes both inside and outside. However, it remains the same in terms of engines and underpinnings.
Skoda’s flagship sedan has minor changes to the exterior. The new logo is featured on a new grille and is similar to the one on the Octavia. The front bumper now gets a honeycomb-shaped air intake. The A-pillar has been redesigned along with the alloy wheels. For the first time, Superb will be offered with bi-xenon headlights and integrated LED DRLs. Rear styling is also revised and now includes new rear lights with LED graphics which create a ‘C’ shape. The Czech auto maker’s D+ segment car also retains most of its practicality including the notchback boot which has a capacity of 565 litres.
The facelifted Skoda Superb retains the same interiors as the current car and will be offered with black or beige interiors and leather upholstery. Standard features in terms of driver aids are expected to include six airbags, ABS, EBD, ESP, cruise control and traction control. In the cabin Skoda is offering a six-CD changer, rear parking sensors, electrically adjustable OVRMs, rain sensing wipers, touchscreen music system with more than six speakers.
The engine line-up for India will remain the same - the 1.8-litre TSI petrol and 2.0-litre TDI diesel. The former produces 158bhp and 250Nm of torque while the oil burner produces 138bhp and 320Nm of torque. Both engines are mated to a six-speed manual with the diesel also getting the option of six-speed DSG.
The Skoda Superb competes with the VW Passat, Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord and the Nissan Teana. We expect that the car will be priced in the range of Rs 19 lakh to Rs 24 lakh when launched in India.
