Toyota Kirloskar Motors has unveiled the highly anticipated new Corolla Altis in the Indian market. The Corolla has sold over 40 million units so far and more than 88,000 units of the car have been sold in India till 2013.
The facelifted car packs a sharper new design based on the Furia design philosophy. It gets an updated features list and a revamped new cabin outlook. The new Corolla gets race-reclining seats, with a 100mm wheelbase extension promising a more dynamic ride and handling, there is also the incorporation of new soft-touch materials in the dashboard. The main highlights of the car are the first-in-class LED headlamps and daytime running lights.
The new Corolla is powered by the same engine the earlier model was equipped with. Both the 1.8-litre and 2.0-litre powertrains are carry-overs from the last generation. The new Altis comes with a 7-speed CVT tuned to be closer to give the manual feel and gets new alloys as well. In terms of safety it gets dual front airbags, ABS, EBD and Brake Assist with pretension seat belts.
The demand for the new Corolla has been positive in the global market so far and is expected to be the same in India. With this competitive pricing, the vehicle rivals the Chevrolet Cruze, the Volkswagen Jetta, the new Skoda Octavia and the Hyundai Elantra.
