Maruti has released an advertorial in a newspaper which reads Celerio ‘coming soon’ with a small box in the right corner indicating ‘bookings open now’. With the Celerio, the emphasis seems to be on the new technology ‘EZ drive’ with the Automated Manual Gearbox (AMT). The car will make its debut at the Auto Expo next month.
The advertisement has claimed fuel-efficiency figures of 23.1 kmpl for the AMT-equipped Celerio. While there have been spy pictures revealing all of the information including the exterior and interiors, there is still an air of mystery surrounding the car and its new technology. Maruti is the first manufacturer to mass produce this in India.
The car will be powered by the 1.0-litre three-cylinder K-series petrol engine and is one of the products that will get Suzuki’s indigenously developed two-cylinder diesel engine oil burner. The AMT transmission in the Celerio does away with the pain of using the clutch and unlike the automatic transmission-equipped cars, lets the driver shift gears. The AMT is the most talked about technology and with Tata planning a Nano with the same, this could be the answer to our worsening traffic situation.
This is one important product as the Celerio might be positioned above the Wagon R and will be slotted below the Ritz.
If you are eager to drive the new Celerio the company has started registering test-drive requests.
