The first unofficial teaser of Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming small car, the Celerio, is out. The Celerio, which is set to replace the A-Star, in the Indian market will get the automated manual transmission (AMT). The company is marketing this new technology at EZ DRIVE.
This is the first time the Indian market is getting such a technology. AMT is expected to be more fuel efficient than the regular manual transmission. In case of the Celerio, the AMT is reported to be five per cent more efficient.
AMT is a clutchless transmission with manual gears. This technology developed by Magneti Marelli, is based on an electronic control unit and a hydraulic system that controls the use of the clutch and the gear shifting. It allows the driver to change gear without using the clutch, either sequentially or fully automatically.
The Celerio will be powered by the same 1.0-litre K-series three cylinder engine that powers the Alto K10 and A-Star. The production model of this car will make its first public appearance at the upcoming 2014 Auto Expo.
