LIVE: All-New Mercedes-Benz S-Class launch

Carwale team is in ITC Maurya, New Delhi to cover the launch of the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class in India. This flagship sedan from the German auto giant is a revelation from its predecessors.

The W222 series S-Class will be made available in the S500 guise and at the heart it gets a stonking 4.7-litre dual-turbo V8 engine that churns out an impressive 460bhp and 700Nm of torque. The power transmission to the wheels is done via a 7G-Tronic plus gearbox. The luxury segment is all about extravagant features and a host of safety equipment, the S-Class has it in truck loads .The plush cabin gets a 1,560 watts 24-speaker Burmester audio with a 250GB hard disk and 6-way massaging seats among the many features.

The S-Class is available in short and long wheelbase versions, in India we get only the long wheelbase model. Mercedes is busy producing enough of the new S-Class to meet the growing demand for the car. The flagship sedan from Mercedes is all set to reclaim the “best car in the world” title. 

The launch is about to begin. We had a sneek-peek into the features of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and now we are waiting for the real deal.

We are now at the main hall and we are treated with two cars under wrap. We know for sure that one is the S500. Will Mercedes showcase any other variants or is it the same variant in two shades?

                     

The S-Class looks extremely elegant. It has Napa leather upholstery for the ultimate interior feel. 

Eberhard Kern, Managing Director & CEO, Mercedes-Benz India, is on stage. Mercedes says 2013 was a successful year despite the challenging market situation.

Kern is talking about the brand philosohpy  'Best or Nothing'. Mercedes calls the 2014 - the Year of excellence - says the year will see a number of launches.

The German carmaker promises that the year will establish them as the luxury manufacturer with the largest dealer network. Mercedes plans to continue building on the success of the compact cars - Is the CLA and GLA in the pipeline?

We continue to get an overview of Mercedes' performance in 2013 - Over 3,000 footfalls for the Mercedes Driving Academy at BIC.

We are looking at a small video about the S-Class history.

There is lot of effort gone into the making of the new S-Class right from selecting the bolts and buttons for the car, to high speed testing at the most challenging race track in the world.

Lutz Regelmann, product manager of the S-Class and Eberhard Kern unveil the car. We have one white and one black example of the S-Class on stage.

So, we now have all the details just waiting for the price of the car.

Now, Regelmann is taking us through the details and features of the car.

The front grille has two integrated cameras that are part of the multi cam setup to provide 360 degree view of the surroundings.The front also has infrared sensors to provide night vision as part of the driver assist.

We are looking at the interiors once again - The S-Class has the biggest LCD screen among the production cars.

The rear seats of the S-Class offers six different types of massages apart from the standard reclining and other features.

Kern is on stage to announce the price!

The S-Class has received 30,000 pre-orders before its global launch. 

We are getting the extended wheelbase launch edition of the S500. It is priced at Rs 1.57 crore (ex-showroom Delhi).

Mercedes India already has 125 bookings for the new car in the last two weeks. This version is imported to India as a CBU, the CKD version of the car will be launched in the next couple of months.
