Skoda chairman Dr.Winfried Vahland has announced that the next-generation Superb will be a breakthrough in terms of styling over its predecessor. The new Superb will be based on VW’s MQB platform and will share as much as 50 per cent of its parts with the VW Passat.
The new Superb in terms of styling and execution will be a ‘revelation’ and will continue to be the flagship model for the next 10 years. It will be available in saloon and estate guise, but the saloon will be devoid of the hatchback tailgate boot opening.
Skoda is also working hard on the aerodynamic efficiency. In a bid to make their cars lighter and fuel-efficient in the future, Superb’s most powerful motor will be a four-cylinder unit while the V6 engine will be shelved.
In India, the Superb is the best-seller in the D-segment and the competition still has no answer. Customers prefer it over rivals like VW Passat, Nissan Teana, Toyota Camry, Hyundai Sonata and the Honda Accord (now discontinued). The all-new Superb will be significant for Indian operations and it might be the undisputed leader for years to come.
Skoda, however, has not set any particular date for the launch of the all-new Superb. For those in India, we will be waiting for the facelifted Skoda Superb which will be coming to us next year. So, the wait for the all-new Skoda Superb is going to be a long one.
