2014 Honda City diesel to be launched on January 7

The 2014 Honda City diesel will be launched for the Indian market on January 7. It was globally unveiled on November 25 at a function in Delhi and is the second oil burner from the Japanese automaker after the Amaze sedan. We have already driven the car and know all the features, options, engine specifications and are now waiting for Honda to announce the price. 

The 2014 Honda City is more of an evolution in terms of design rather a completely new product but it does get much in terms of changes and this include a new fascia, modifications to the rear end as well new alloy wheels.

However, where Honda has done its work is the interiors which now get many new added features including cruise control, keyless entry and button start. It has retained the same proportions but has increased the wheelbase in a bid to increase the space inside the cabin. 

This is the second Honda after the Amaze to be offered with a diesel engine. It will be powered by the same 1.5-litre i-DTEC unit from the compact sedan with the same output-100bhp and 200Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. Honda will also continue to offer the 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol unit that now produces 119bhp and 146Nm of torque. This engine can either be had with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AT box. 

Reports suggest that Honda dealers began bookings for the new City just over a month ago and now it seems to have got its timing right in terms of launching the car. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs 11.5 lakh and compete with the VW Vento, Hyundai Verna, Chevrolet Sail sedan, Renault Scala and the Nissan Sunny.
