Riding on the success of the recently launched Grand i10, Hyundai is planning to launch an extended version of the Grand i10 with a boot. Now, CarWale has pictures of the sedan being tested outside Chennai, courtesy our friends at PowerDrift. It seems that Hyundai is testing two separate vehicles as the previous car that was spotted was a white vehicle.
The sedan looks very similar to the Grand i10 and is expected to share many parts with the hatchback and will have the same roof line as the hatchback. The C-segment car is based on the extended BA platform and will be getting both petrol and diesel engines. The petrol will be the 1.2-litre Kappa engine that produces 81bhp and 114Nm of torque while the diesel is expected to be a 1.4-litre unit producing 89bhp and 219Nm of torque, sourced from the i20. The petrol will get a five-speed manual and a four-speed auto-box while a six-speed manual will power the diesel.
Hyundai seems to want to cash in on the success of the sub-four-metre sedans. If the popularity of the Grand i10 is any indicator, then the sedan should also be a success for the company. Hyundai will be showcasing it at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo, and will launch it later in the year. Once launched, it will go up against the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and the Tata Indigo eCS.
