Mahindra’s facelifted Scorpio was caught testing near the company’s R&D centre in South India. The 2014 spec of the SUV has been spied several times in the outskirts of Chennai. This time the vehicle was pictured with a testing box mounted at the rear bumper of the SUV.
The testing box has an AVL logo as seen in the pictures taken by photographers at Anything on Wheels. This box is connected to the exhaust of the vehicle, which gives us an idea that the prototype is being tested for its emission levels. Anstalt für Verbrennungskraftmaschinen List (AVL) from Austria generally tests systems relating to instrumentation and other powertrain systems for different manufacturers all over. With the help of this consulting firm and research institute, Mahindra seems to be testing for a new component on the car, presumably a catalytic converter.
Mahindra may bring the revamped Scorpio to the Indian automobile market in the second half of 2014. The Scorpio has been doing well for the manufacturer even since it was launched in 2002. This year Scorpio sales crossed four lakh units and recently a special edition of the Scorpio was launched with minor changes to the exteriors as well as interiors. This time around we guess Mahindra will bring a revised version of the 11-year-old Scorpio. This will accompany the company’s new compact SUV dubbed as the S101 which is currently being tested.
