After a lot of speculation and multiple image leaks on the Internet, Ford has confirmed that the all-new Mustang will be revealed on December 5, ahead of its public debut at the NAIAS in January 2014. The carmakers released this piece of information via the Ford Mustang YouTube channel.
This will be the first redesign since 2005 for the car and comes as the car celebrates its 50th anniversary next year. The 2015 Mustang will be a global car and Ford has already announced plans to sell it in Europe.
The car gets a more modern design, a better chassis and more efficient engines and improved transmission, all intended to broaden the car's appeal beyond its core American audience.
Employing independent rear suspension for the first time – rather than its previous live rear axle – the new Mustang will be powered by an uprated supercharged 5.0-litre ‘Coyote’ V8, a 3.7-litre V6 and an all-new turbocharged 2.3-litre EcoBoost four-cylinder petrol engine.
"We had a big decision to make about the execution of the vehicle, but most of all we had a chance to globalise this iconic vehicle," Ford global marketing chief Jim Farley told reporters at an event held in conjunction with the Los Angeles Auto Show.
To help broaden the Mustang's appeal globally, Ford will introduce the new design simultaneously at its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, New York, Los Angeles, Barcelona, Shanghai and Sydney.
What we should be interested in is the Australia launch. The Aussies are used to right-hand driving and so that means, going by Ford’s new strategy of globalisation, India could probably be one of the markets to receive it.
