Volkswagen has launched the updated Jetta in the Indian market for Rs 13.70 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). This is the first upgrade for the current generation Jetta, since it was launched in the Indian market in 2011. It gets mostly cosmetic changes on the inside and outside and is mechanically identical to the outgoing car.
The facelifted Jetta gets a new design for the headlights, similar to the ones on the larger Passat. The design includes daytime running LEDs arranged in an L-shaped manner. In terms of grille, bumpers and tail lights the design remains unchanged.
Xenon headlights will feature on the Highline variant along with a headlight washer. Automatic climate control will be a standard feature on all variants now. The Trendline and Comfortline variants get new ‘Sedona’ alloy wheels.
New interior options include 12-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, 60:40 folding rear seat, front- and rear-mounted proximity sensors, high-end Bluetooth-compatible music system, advanced digital instrument panel with multi-function display (MFD), cruise control and paddle shifters for the DSG gearbox. In terms of safety, the facelifted Jetta now gets ABS, electronic stabilization program (ESP) and six airbags.
Engine options remain unchanged and this means that the Jetta will boast of a 1.4-litre petrol TSI motor and a 2.0-litre oil burner. The petrol engine produces 122bhp and 200 Nm while the diesel produces 140bhp and 320 Nm of torque. The transmission options include a six-speed DSG automatic and a six-speed manual gearbox.
The Volkswagen Jetta competes with the Skoda Octavia, Toyota Corolla Altis, Chevrolet Cruze and the Skoda Laura in the D-Segment.
