Mercedes-Benz has recently released a new video teaser of the all new 2015 C-class (codenamed W205). The German automaker has been feeling the heat from its rivals BMW and Audi in the luxury sedan segment and it seems it is not willing to be outdone. They have gone ahead and released the teaser video in the run-up to the car’s official debut in January 2014 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.
The 2015 C-Class has been spotted testing and rendered many times over the last few months and we had even written about the spy shots revealing more details about the car, here.
It will be sitting on the same MRA platform as found in the next generation compact luxury crossover SUV, the GLK. The C-Class will be powered by a range of engines. Found under the hood is the newly developed 1.6-litre four cylinder turbo petrol engine that makes 250bhp, as well as the turbocharged 3.0-litre V6.
The AMG version of the new C-Class will also get a new turbocharged V-6 engine which will replace the M156 6.2-litre V-8. The car is expected to come with a six-speed manual and a seven-speed automatic transmission.
The new C-Class gets features like the latest driver-assistance systems developed by Mercedes-Benz to create a meaningful gap between the two models. In terms of design philosophy, the car does share a lot of features with its siblings. Though primarily the C- Class has been offered with rear-wheel-drive, this time the makers are offering an option to upgrade it to all-wheel-drive as well.
We expect that India will be one of the first markets to get the car once it is launched. It is likely that two months down the line, the Mercedes-Benz Pune plant will probably get down to manufacturing it with the hope that the new C-Class turns in impressive sales numbers as it had done in the past. Once launched, the C-Class will be competing with the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4.
