It’s one of the most highly anticipated luxury SUVs of the year and yet as 2013 is drawing to a close, we still have no word on when Fiat will officially launch the Jeep range for the Indian market. However, what we can give you is another set of spy shots, courtesy of the team at Motorbash, of a two test car making their way through the busy streets of the Margrapatta area in Pune.
Fiat had announced in December last year that they would be bringing a variety of their products for the Indian market. This list included Abarth, Mopar and more importantly the Jeep Cherokee and the Wrangler. The test cars in the pictures are both the four-door version and the more authentic two-door version have already been spotted on multiple occasions in and around Pune.
The India spec Jeep Wrangler is likely to be offered with two engines; a 3.6-litre V6 petrol that produces 285bhp and a 2.8-litre turbocharged engine that produces 197bhp and 451Nm of torque. Both engines will make use of seven-speed automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive system.
The Wrangler and its more luxurious sibling the Cherokee will be brought to India via the CBU route but might be locally assembled in the future if Fiat finds sufficient demand for them. We expect that Fiat will price the Wrangler in the range of Rs 28 lakh to Rs 35 lakh and it will compete with the Land Rover Freelander 2.
