Porsche has begun production of its 918 Spyder at its facility in Zuffenhausen. The hypercar was unveiled by the German automaker at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show and will be their new flagship rocket on wheels. A report from Autocar UK suggests that the company is already got enough bookings to complete two-thirds of the initial limited production run.
The 918 Spyder is in a way a successor to the extremely powerful and very loud Carrera GT which ended its run 2007. The 918 is powered by a 4.6-litre naturally aspirated V8 that produces 601PS. This engine has been mated to two electric motors that produce 284PS taking the total output to 885PS. The setup has been mated to a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. Such numbers have resulted in the 918 Spyder lapping the famed Nurburgring in just six minutes and 57 seconds setting a new world record.
The 918 has been priced at 657, 400 GBP (Rs 6.6 Crore) but will cost 718,000 GBP (Rs 7.2 Crore) if fitted with the optional Weissach package. Deliveries for the car are expected to begin by the end of this year. We have already spoken in detail about the car when it was unveiled at the 2013 Frankfurt motor Show, the details of which you can find below.
