A facelifted version of the Mahindra Scorpio SUV has been spotted testing by a fan of Team-bhp. The test vehicle has been spotted with camouflage on the front and rear end, an indication of what the kind of major changes will be on the car. The Scorpio has been in the market for 11 years now and by the looks of it, this is expected to most major update it will get before an all-new model is brought in post 2016.
The facelifted Scorpio gets a revised front and rear end but retains the same overall design. This is likely to be in a bid to remain faithful to existing customers and fans of the SUV. The design of the alloy wheels is also new. These major changes have given the Scorpio a squat stance and hopefully when revealed fully, a more contemporary look. There are no details on the interiors but it is likely that the Scorpio will now pick up elements from the XUV500.
In terms of engines, we expect that the facelift will continue to make use of the three diesel engines currently available with the SUV; a 2.6-litr mill (Getaway only), a 2.5-litre mill and the BS3 spec 2.2-litre engine. All the engines have been mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The Indian SUV major had already previously announced that it would not be introducing any new vehicle till 2015 and will keep upgrading/ facelifting its current range till such time. With the Renault Duster completing a year and now the Nissan Terrano, the sales of the Scorpio while not sinking completely has taken a beating. A facelift at this point should bring it back quite firmly in the game. It is likely that Mahindra might introduce the facelifted Scorpio towards the end of this year.
