Jaguar has released a silhouette of the alleged C-X17 crossover concept that is believed to be the foundation of their new SUV. The concept is set for unveiling as part of the Frankfurt Motor Show next week and will be preceded by a digital unveiling on the September 9.
From the teaser it is evident that the model has inspired its tail light design from the recently launched F-Type sports car. The sketch also reveals the concept is possibly more inclined to be a crossover than a full blown SUV.
It further strengthens the rumours that Jaguar are working on a new crossover dubbed the Q-Type based on the Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA) that debuted in the latest Range Rover SUV. The platform consists of underpinnings mainly composing of lightweight aluminium and will feature in all of Jaguar’s next generation models including the new 3 Series competing sedan and the next XF.
Jaguar had earlier stated its ambitions to push sales figures further in the next three years and in that front an entry into the crossover segment is a logical one considering its increasing popularity. When launched, the Q-Type will go up against the Audi Q5 and the BMW X3 while being positioned slightly below its sibling, the Evoque. If the silhouette and the renderings are anything to go by, the Q-Type is set to be another eye catcher from the Tata owned car manufacturer.
