EcoSport effect: Ford India records best ever sales in July

Ford has recorded its best ever monthly sales in its 18 year history in the sub-continent and this thanks to the EcoSport compact crossover that was launched on June 26. The car has already recorded 30,000 bookings within 17 days of its launch and is expected to be a major seller for the American Automaker.

Ford sold a total of 12,338 units of which domestic sales were 7,867 units and exports (once again bolstered by the EcoSport) stood at 4,471 units. This is an overall increase of 48 per cent compared to corresponding period last year.  While domestic sales are up by 26 per cent, exports have gone up by 114 per cent as compared to 2012.

The EcoSport has already had its effect on the Renault Duster which has lost over 3000 units over the last three months. However, the Renault Nissan's alliance other ace up its sleeve is the Duster based Terrano which will be unveiled on August 20 and is expected to be launched in October.   

Commenting on the change of fortune for the American automaker Vinay Piparsania, executive director, marketing, sales and service, said “Despite the near-term difficulty in the economy, our customers have put their trust in the urban SUV EcoSport, and with the Figo ranking as the best premium compact car in the prestigious J.D.
