Jaguar to launch luxury compact sedan and crossover by 2015

British luxury car manufacturer Jaguar is planning to re-enter the compact luxury sedan market by 2015. The X-Type successor is expected to be announced at this year’s Frankfurt motor Show and will be likely named Jaguar XS.

The car has been spotted testing at a number of occasions wearing the body of the XF. It believed to be built on a aluminium intensive monocoque body structure and will be manufactured on Jaguar's Premium Lightweight Architecture (PLA). Jaguar is also planning on launch an X1 competing crossover by 2015 which will also follow this design philosophy. The models will reportedly be built at the Land Rover plant in Solihull, England and will hit European markets in the latter half of 2015.

Engine specifications of the compact sedan are not out yet, but speculation is rife that the car will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol as well a supercharged 3.0-litre petrol. The possibility of a diesel has not been decided yet. The car when launched will go up against the 3 Series, A4 and the C-Class and will end the four year absence of Jaguar from the highly competitive segment.
